How one man has been proving significant geographical diversity in Emilia-Romagna.
A couple of years ago in an article on Romagna Sangiovese I mentioned Giorgio Melandri, an Italian colleague who, during a seminar for wine journalists that took place in Faenza in 2015, tried to make us see the stylistic differences between the 12 Romagna subzones by ‘looking’ at the tannins of just 14 different wines that were in front of us. At the time the subzones were a fairly recent phenomenon, identified only in 2011 with Melandri as one of the masterminds.
