Wine Australia, the generic body that represents Australian wine in the UK, is holding a barbecue on Sunday 17 May in memory of Yvonne May, the much-missed head of Wine Australia. Held in collaboration with the wine-trade charity The Benevolent, the May Day Barbecue (geddit?) will take place at London’s urban winery, London Cru in nether Earl’s Court, from 1 pm to 5 pm.
The solid stuff is guaranteed to be distinctly superior since it is being prepared by Australian wine enthusiast and Michelin-starred chef Roger Jones of The Harrow at Little Bedwyn. This will be no ordinary barbecue, with the likes of foie gras macaroons, sushi, caramelised belly of pork and Thai-spiced monkfish cutlets on offer.
Fine Australian wines and premium beers are being generously donated by members of the trade and attendees will also have the chance to win a 100-bottle cellar of Australian wine. All proceeds from the event will go directly to The Benevolent, helping vulnerable members of the trade who are suffering from serious illness, disability, financial hardship or experiencing a personal or family emergency.
