Austrian reds – the tasting notes

At this year's generic Austrian tasting at the Institute of Directors in London (pictured here by Alastair Bathgate) I took a deep breath and decided it was time I immersed myself in the country's red wines.

Purple pagers who follow the forum may already have seen serious stirrings of interest in this subject in the recent thread Are Austrian reds poised for a popularity explosion? I tasted every red I could before being swept out of the room by those clearing it up, which meant that a handful of wines went untasted.
