The one official Union des Grands Crus tasting that took place in the relevant wine region rather than at the new football stadium on the outskirts of Bordeaux (see Bordeaux 2015 – the logistics) was the Sauternes (and Barsac) tasting. I asked a prominent producer the reason for this exception to the rule and was told, ‘If we don’t have the official tasting here, there’s no chance of anyone visiting our region’.
