German 2012 white Pinots and Silvaners – take note!

There may always be doubters who will argue that the white Pinot grapes and Silvaner are not in the league of Riesling and should therefore not be awarded Grosse Gewächse status in the VDP classification. This prejudice seems to be more widespread abroad than in the homeland. To my mind there are two reasons for this misconception: (a) lack of availability of, and therefore familiarity with, these wines in foreign markets, and (b) that they may, in style if not exactly in taste, be compared to Chardonnay, whereas German Riesling is unique.
