Our very best wishes to all wine lovers today, Christmas Day.
It's a lovely sunny day in London and not too chilly – certainly no chance of snow. The grandsons have been awake since 4.30 and the stockings have now been opened. Restaurateur son Will Lander (Quality Chop House and, next month, Portland on Great Portland Street) is now taking a very active interest in exactly which bottles will be opened so we are keeping many an option open. But there is lots of vintage Pol in the fridge – I can't see the point of boycotting champagne to protest against the case the CIVC, the generic champagne body, has brought against the Australian wine writer who styles herself Champagne Jayne, I'm afraid.
I'm just so thankful to be back, post pneumonia, firing on all tasting cylinders. Going upstairs may be something I have to do slowly, but my tasting faculties are in top form as is, thank goodness, my appetite.
Thank you so much for continuing to visit JancisRobinson.com, and particular thanks to the hundreds of respondents to our recent survey of your feelings about tastings we might organise. Survey results to be published soonish.
Wishing you many great bottles,
Jancis
