I recently went to South Africa en route to hosting a Portuguese wine tasting at this year’s FT Weekend Festival in Washington DC. This may not look like the most direct routing but I kidded myself that three long-haul flights were better than four, and my few days in the Cape winelands vastly improved my grasp of the current situation there...
