La Vigneronne, the highly individual South Ken wine store run by Mike and Liz Berry MW for as long as I can remember, is holding a Languedoc wine fair on Saturday 31 May (11am-5pm) at Jurys Hotel in Queensgate, just round the corner from the shop in Old Brompton Road.
There'll be at least 50 wines to taste, from the bargain Grande Cassagne in Costières de Nîmes (now available in all colours and at a range of price levels, alas) to super-snazzy Grange des Pères, the neighbour of Mas de Daumas Gassac in Aniane that so often out classes it.
The Berrys moved fulltime to western Provence many years ago and have therefore been extremely well placed to snap up some of the best producers in Languedoc and Roussillon. Several of them will be at the tasting.
Tickets are £25 but those placing an order worth more than £250 on the day will be reimbursed for the cost of their ticket. Tickets can be ordered either from 020 7589 6113 or Lavig@aol.com. For a special offer, see purple pages.
