Len's bloody good send-off

19 sep: Apparently there were a good thousand people at a raucous send-off for Len. Speeches were given by his widow Trish, Brian Croser, James Halliday,  Senator Michael Baume, Michael Hill Smith, Len's son-in-law Steven and his nine year-old granddaughter Emily. There were two big bands and the event concluded with a fly-past by three Tiger Moths.

Nick heard from the Hunter Valley yesterday that Tower Estate where Len Evans' memorial get-together is scheduled tomorrow lunchtime is bracing itself for a possible 2,000 visitors converging on its limited resources for a final celebration of an extraordinary life.

Here's the last photograph ever taken of Len, with Trish, at drinks before the Hunter Valley Wine Show's judges' dinner at Robert's restaurant in the Hunter Valley. Nick is on the extreme left. Iain Riggs of Brokenwood is on Len's right, James Halliday is in the background and fellow judge Ian McKenzie is second right. I'm the one in the blue sack.
