On 16 Dec, I made a familiar drive east on Highway 128 through Sonoma county’s Alexander Valley, en route to Calistoga in northern Napa Valley. As I crossed the Alexander Valley bridge spanning the Russian River, I saw something I’d not seen in 18 years – the entire Mayacamas mountain range, and the range beyond it to the east, covered with snow.
