Liz and Mike Berry, the couple behind La Vigneronne wine store in London’s South Kensington who now live in the south of France, are now running Grand Cru Wines, a business exporting some of the most interesting wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon. Building on the long tradition of La Vigneronne’s early evening tastings, they are holding a blind tasting of the likes of Pétrus and Chave Hermitage ‘against’ what they reckon is the best Merlot and Syrah from the Languedoc, for example, this Wednesday in London.
Wines will include Château Pétrus and 2000 Château Léoville Barton from Bordeaux, Hermitage from Chave and Châteauneuf du Pâpe from Château Rayas from the Rhône, and a range of the top wines from Languedoc Roussillon, including Grange des Pères, Les Boissières and Clot de l’Oum from Roussillon.
I’d love to take part but will be on a plane for New York. There are still a few places left for those of you who are equally curious however and look forward to hearing the results. (I cannot think of any southern French Cabernet, for example, that would be a match for Léoville Barton.) Details below.
