The approval of a new sustainability programme for Australian wine has been soured by scandal after revelations that a crucial audit of the programme had been doctored by the industry’s own representative organisation.
It was meant to be a good news story when the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia announced last Wednesday that Sustainable Australia Winegrowing, a comprehensive sustainability programme developed by the McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism Association (MCGWTA), had been approved as part of Entwine, WFA’s national environmental scheme.
