Confusion begins with the colour.
We tend to call wines that are typically pinker than white but paler than red by their French name rosé, even if we call red wines ‘red’ not rouge and white wines ‘white’ not blanc. There are no official definitions of rosé although in some regulated wine regions in Europe, there are restrictions on how such wines should be made. The actual colour is rarely stipulated.
