Austrian whites delight

The phrase 'a pig in clover' may not translate directly into German but that's how I felt as I focused on white wines at the annual Austrian tasting in London last month. (See Jancis's tasting notes on Fine Austrian reds to get the other side of the picture.) Not that every wine was amazing, but the overall standard was remarkably high and it was a real treat to taste these 80 wines, mostly Riesling and Grüner Veltliner from the 2010 or the 2011 vintage but also a few older wines and some examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Weissburgunder/Pinot Blanc...
