Brunello di Montalcino 2001 Riservas – the tasting notes

Here are notes on more than 50 Brunello di Montalcino Riservas from the decidedly promising 2001 vintage, a follow up to my notes on the regular Brunello di Montalcino 2001s and overview of the vintage. Overall the standard of winemaking was high, with very clean wines, even if they were stylistically, and qualitatively in my view, pretty varied. A number of these wines seemed to have been over-extracted and forced, but the best are great wines by any standard.
