Meanwhile in the UK, Waitrose, the only supermarket to get involved in this potentially lucrative end of the business, reports that they sold four times more 2009s en primeur than 2008s and that early registrations of interest increased by 135%. The first wine they offered, at £500 a case, sold out within an hour. Waitrose used to conduct their en primeur sales through Lay & Wheeler but that honour now falls to new owners...
