From Beijing airport

I'm in Beijing airport awaiting my flight to the burgeoning wine country of Ningxia and am already suffering Twitter withdrawal symptoms. I hadn't really taken in that, like millions and millions of Chinese, I wouldn't be able to tweet from China.

Thanks to WSET Diploma graduate Young Shi, I have just started on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Weibo here. Perhaps I will switch to that for the duration. Calling Mandarin speakers...  She has also started a Chinese blog for me, and we hope to increase the number of my articles translated into Mandarin.

Much to my surprise, I was met from my incoming flight from London by China's famous winemaker (of that Decanter trophy winner inter alia) and mentor to many young Chinese wine professionals Demei Li. He was very clever to spot me (I'd have put my make-up on if I'd known I was going to see anyone I knew).

Just one thing I really wanted to tweet:  Patriarche should be ashamed of  the 2009 Meursault they have sold to British Airways for their Business Class. It's both watery and flabby.

On the other hand, the wines in the Terminal  5 BA lounge are pretty good: a slew of smartish 2007 red bordeaux and the dry white of Ch Guiraud.
