Mopping up some of the German 2008s that Jancis and Michael didn't get to earlier, I tasted these wines last month at the VDP Grosser Ring tasting in Trier, in the rather shabby-grand location of the Reichsabtei St Maximin. The high vaulted ceilings and gothic arches were a magnificent backdrop to the great wines of the VDP [the arches shown here are those of the Vereinigte Hospitien in Trier, whose 2008s are reviewed below – JR].
