Klaus Peter Keller of Rheinhessen sent these pictures – the view from the Frauenberg vineyard and some super-ripe, super-healthy Pinot Noir grapes - and this report on the current harvest in Germany on Friday:
Until now 2009 has been a true dream vintage. Today we finished harvesting the Pinots from Bürgel and Frauenberg in perfect health. Yields are around 2.5 tons per ha [17.5 hl/ha] – 25% less than in 2008. The juice is beautifully aromatic with good acidity.
The Riesling harvest is supposed to start in around 10 days. Grapes are small with thick skins and are also healthy. Also here yield seems to be lower than in the previous years. I hope the weather continues like this. If so, then an extraordinary 2009 is possible.
