Hold the front page – 1996s start to soften

A recent look at the top red bordeaux of 1996 suggests they are much less obdurate than the 1986s with which they have been compared. At the Wine Dinner held for three worthy charities earlier this week the 1996s vintage of all the first growths and equivalents (inc Pétrus and Le Pin) and super seconds was shown.
 
Organiser London wine merchant Johnny Goedhuis of Goedhuis & Co was a bit worried in advance that the wines’ famous tannic charge might make the tasting as hard work as the 1986s had been at a previous similar event. He need not...
