Kracher of Neusiedlersee in Austria’s Burgenland is one of the world’s most consistent stars of sweet winemaking. Those with long memories may remember that we filmed the late Alois Kracher and his father Alois on the shores of this extensive shallow lake close to the Austro-Hungarian border in Burgenland (see this map). We couldn’t believe how many fully botrytised grapes there were on the Krachers’ carefully netted vines by the lake, whose humidity encourages the development of noble rot there.
This is a very particular corner of the wine world...
