Penfolds recently launched the latest available vintages of what they call their Luxury and Icon wines. Tasting conditions were hardly ideal – a very small, very warm ‘room’ on the Penfolds stand at the recent London International Wine and Spirits Fair. This was slightly detrimental to the condition of the biggest and most alcoholic of the wines, though Penfolds are certainly aiming to keep the levels down. On the plus side, chief winemaker Peter Gago was there to introduce the wines and answer questions. Here are my tasting notes, along with some background information in italics.
