Pesticide residues in wine – new study

report earlier this week on a recent study which tested 40 samples of red wine for pesticide residues makes scary reading. The study was commissioned by Pesticide Action Network Europe.

Six of the wines tested were made organically and 34 using conventional viticulture. The wines came from France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Australia, South Africa and Chile. The French wines included three crus classes red bordeaux whose analyses (though not identities) are given in full in the online report. They all contained procymidone which is classified by the EU as a carcinogen.
