Two weeks in North America took me between North Carolina and California recently. The former state is not so well known for wine, but would seem to have all the requisite elements, not least plenty of enthusiastic local producers. Albariño may not be the obvious choice of variety perhaps, but that was one of the tasting notes I managed to take, the other being a good but unfortunately tired Shiraz from the AVA of Yadkin Valley, perhaps having spent too long on the shelves...
