You may not believe this but some wine producers, particularly those who are part of big companies with deep pockets, try to bribe us wine writers. I have never been offered cash, and have no qualms about accepting wine samples (so long as they come in maximum units of two bottles, a back up in case of TCA or similar problems), but a common ploy is to invite us to some major artistic or sporting event. As outlined in our code of ethics, my policy is to decline these invitations.
