The UK supermarket's online wine division www.tesco.com/winestore very cleverly drew attention to itself last year by offering tiny quantities of the much sought-after Cloudy Bay. Stocks sold out immediately of course but it promised to make another offer and here it is, active from 11 March:
2 x 2001 Lawsons Dry Hills Sauvignon Blanc
2 x 2001 Montana Reserve Sauvignon Blanc
2 x 2001 Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc
2 x 2001 Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc
2 x 2001 Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc
1 x 2001 Giesen Sauvignon Blanc
1 x 2001 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc
While stocks last the case price will be £93, which works out at just under eight pounds a bottle – not a bad price really, though it seems a bit much to have to satisfy a yen for Cloudy Bay by paying for 11 bottles of something else, however well made.
