Jaboulet’s Hermitage La Chapelle is one of the world’s great wines with one of the most consistent track records of any French wine in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Auctioneers Christie’s are organizing a tasting and dinner at their base in London’s St James’s featuring 20 vintages of this magisterial Syrah from the northern Rhône on Tuesday 17 may 05. (This is one of the busiest weeks in the London wine calendar, thanks to the London Wine Trade Fair www.londonwinefair.com)
At 6.30 pm there will be an informal tasting of 12 of these vintages followed by a four-course dinner in Christie’s directors’ dining room served with the remaining eight vintages (which I assume will be the younger, less rare ones).
Alas there is no 1961 but the following vintages are promised: 1964, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1997 and 1999.
Tickets are £245 each from Antonia Essex on 020 7752 3101, aessex@christies.com
