Wine Gums are warned
In one of the most bizarre cases of bureaucratic meddling ever, it has come to light that Maynards Wine Gums have been targeted by the European Union for their use of appellation names.
Specifically, the use of the terms ‘Claret', ‘Sherry', ‘Port' and ‘Champagne’ as printed on the sweets themselves has been identified as particular infringement on the protected designation of origin status that these terms have in relation to wine. Some of the offending gums are pictured below.
