There’s a great apocryphal story explaining why the Spanish speak with a lisp. It is supposedly down to a speech impediment of King Philip II, and the consequent imitation of it by his court and subsequently the whole country. Hence why Spaniards now say Barthelona and thervetha whereas other Spanish-speaking countries say Barcelona and cerveza. But like so many good stories, it’s just a miss. Sorry, a myth.
