Booths say no to Moscato
Supermarket chain Booths, who have 28 branches across the north of England, are eschewing the much-hyped trend for Moscato in their stores. Speaking at their London wine tasting, buyer Andy Green said that their customers ‘want full on flavour’ and that lower alcohol Moscato brands are less appealing than other aromatic varieties such as Gewürztraminer.
The recent surge in sales of wines at 5.5% can be credited in some part to supermarket ‘3 for £10 offers’, according to Green. As taxes and costs continue to increase, wines in this lower tax bracket are easier to squeeze into these low price...
