I wonder if English sparkling now needs its own appellation? Ridgeview once had the idea of using the word Merret to identify English effervescents, and used the term on their labels for many years. It was inspired by Sir Christopher Merret, who was instrumental in the evolution of sparkling-wine methodology in the 17th century. Ridgeview appear to have sidelined the idea, however, since it no longer appears on their bottles.
