A Supertuscan that defied the trend of international grape varieties to focus instead entirely on Sangiovese – and has proved itself super for four decades. Walter brings us up to date.
A while ago one the contributors to our Members’ forum noted a large gap in our tasting notes of one of Tuscany’s iconic ‘Supertuscans’, Fontodi’s Flaccianello della Pieve. I promised to remedy the situation and last October went to see Giovanni Manetti, Fontodi’s owner, who masterminded this wine in Panzano in Chianti Classico back in the 1980s.
