Sangiovese, which is almost always associated with Tuscany, is in actual fact Italy's most widespread red grape variety. With about 10% of the total Italian vineyard area, or 100,000 ha, devoted to it, Sangiovese is the main ingredient in Brunello and the most important part of the blend that is Chianti Classico and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
