In 1983, Yves Gangloff purchased 0.85 hectares (2.1 acres) of land in the Condrieu appellation at a cost of 85,000 francs (which would have been the very rough equivalent of €8,500). Today, that land is worth €850,000. What was then an endangered species has become one of the most reputed fine white wines in the world, with a price tag to match – especially so in an excellent but low-yielding vintage such as 2017.
