The scariest thing I did this month was read a book called Waste Wars, all about what happens to our rubbish, including what we think is being recycled. I recommend it to anyone who can stomach it as it is truly eye-opening. Among many other things, it highlights how important the world’s waste has become to Accra, the capital of Ghana. By coincidence, Accra and waste also played a significant part in the next book I read, Colm McCann’s new novel Twist about – yes, honestly...
