On top of the world in Salta

Travelling to the extraordinary vineyards of Salta in the far north of Argentina is much easier than it used to be now that there are direct flights from Buenos Aires but the last four or five hours from Salta airport to Colomé and the highest vineyards in the world is not without its challenges. Much of the journey is on unmade roads, winding between burnt orange, highly stratified cliffs dotted with crazy cardónes cacti and traversed by dried, braided rivers that are wet only after the weekly storms of summer.
