Grrrrr. My old friend Simon Staples, Berry Bros' ebullient sales supremo, has been at it again – huffing and puffing an inflationary tale about Bordeaux 2005. And so, unwittingly, has my colleague Adam Jones of the FT’s Paris bureau and, particularly, the paper’s sub editors in writing the headline on his article.
There on the front page of Saturday’s Financial Times was the headline ‘Bordeaux’s 2005 vintage hits £4,000 a case before delivery’, based on Staples’ prediction to Jones that ‘the public could well have to pay about £4,000 a case of 12 bottles for the likes...
