The cork industry is thrilled to be able to report that 'leading Australian winery' Rusden 'has announced it is giving up on screwcap closures after five years as a result of persistent quality control issues and will now bottle its entire product range under cork'. But is it perhaps significant that the surname of Rusden's winemaker, who announced this volte face in the July edition of Australia's Wine Business Magazine (WBM) is Canute? It would certainly take great tide-turning powers to persuade the majority of Australian wine producers to abandon their screwcaps.
