Asda – at the coal face of wine retail

Not much left in the purse? British supermarket Asda's recent press tasting showed how determined they are to keep prices low – 'that's Asda price', as the slogan goes.
There is a new own-label range (pictured) dubbed the 'Wine Selection' that sits below the Extra Special, and is priced between £3.98 and £5.98. It is remarkable that some of these wines are entirely respectable, even at such low prices, though it is hardly surprising that many others were decidedly not.
Therefore, 'choose carefully' is the mantra to remember when moving through these sceptered aisles. If budget is a primary consideration...
