On Tuesday I had a chance for a close look at the Palacios range of Spanish wines from three regions – Rioja, Bierzo and Priorat – hosted by Alvaro Palacios pictured here [see my article on Saturday for more details of Alvaro’s brother Rafael’s work on white wines in Valdeorras – JR]. The range is seriously impressive, with the Bierzo wines proving especially interesting, offering distinct, often unusual but always delicious character from the Mencía grape. Alavaro Palacios’ passion for the grape – and indeed, everything to do with the vinous heritage of Spain – is remarkable.
